I quickly learned about fish behavior. I became a "great" fisherman. Er, fisherwoman. And I got to learn about fish anatomy when I got to slice open the sunfish while they flipped around on the table... *cough* I just realized that's kinda gruesome.
Anyway, I kept fishing and fishing... And begging my parents to let me get an aquarium. Finally, when I was 13, they gave in. I got a Siamese fighting fish in a 10 gallon tank, along with a few corydoras catfish. I've kept danios, many kinds of tetras, many kinds of catfish, all kinds of livebearers... You know, the little beginner fish.
One kind of fish I have never gone without is the adorable corydoras. I've been very successful in breeding them. I've even hybridized Corydoras panda and Corydoras paleatus.
And recently, I've upgraded to a 55 gallon tank. Currently, it's stocked with a small school of corydoras, a red-tailed black shark, and two angelfish. They're all awesome.
Fishkeeping gives me something to focus on. It's nice to have a way to focus on something besides fear and sorrow. I can sit in from of my aquarium for hours, just observing my fish. It really helps.
Nobody has ever been able to keep me away from fish. Catching fish, eating fish, keeping fish, breeding fish... It's all good. B)
